Televisor & miseria de la II transición
There was a time, after the First World War, when humanity thought such an atrocity would never be repeated. The great disappointment that the Second World War caused among the inhabitants of Europe was enormous. Works like Waiting for Godot are a prime example. It was a period in which hope was scarce.
The creation of Europe and globalization as a means of solidarity and a buffer against any attempt at expansion, revived the dream that a better world could become a reality. But the fall of the Berlin Wall, which halted unbridled neoliberalism, has led us to another situation of financial imbalance and boundless social inequality. We citizens are once again the victims of such brutal devastation of the social landscape as only a war has managed to achieve until now.
In a delirious comedy style, we portray our situation: at home, in the hospital, at school… And television, what it tells us, what it does to us.
Manuel Vázquez Montalbán was a fundamental man in the intellectual life of our country.
We are fortunate to have his perspective on this key, specific moment in our short democratic history, his analysis of Aznar, the historical moment in which it happened, the political pacts that were made… and everything that this meant for the structure of our country and the mentality of its citizens. Old ghosts that have now reached their peak, that have now found the excuse to finally flourish.
His ironic clarity and wisdom have inspired us to write this work. And everything we’re experiencing, of course.
